Well, I suppose the blogosphere doesn't really need another post about Tookie Williams' execution. A Technorati search just now shows 10,056 English posts containing the term 'tookie'. However, I can't let my feelings on this go unexpressed.

Just so everyone knows up front, I am personally against the death penalty. On a moral level (that's right, us atheists have morals) I find it repugnant and unconscionable. In terms of social policy it is a sham. The death penalty is not only ineffective as a deterrent, but in many cases innocent people are being executed.
