grand rounds

I'm beginning to think that Carnival of the Liberals should come with a warning sticker. Something like: WARNING: HOSTING COTL WILL CAUSE WAR, DISEASE, PESTILENCE AND RUPTURING OF THE SPACE-TIME CONTINUUM. Well, maybe that's a little bit hyperbolic but it does seem like our hosts have had more than their fair share of troubles this year. In any case, Alicia has recovered from her computer woes and posted the 61st edition of CotL over at Last Left Turn Before Hooterville. Lots of really smart, thought-provoking posts this time around so go give it a read before your hard drive crashes.

Up next is A Revolution Of One on April 9th. This is a themed edition focusing on new media. Check the call for submissions post at the link for the details but basically the host is looking for posts that either incorporate or talk about new media. This is a great idea I think and I just know we're going to get a ton of incredible submissions for this one.

Also, I'll be Hans Meyer's guest on Situation Awareness (part of the Free World Radio Network) this Saturday, March 29th at 10AM EST talking about all things Carnival of the Liberals. From what I understand, it's a call-in show so if you've got a question about CotL, give the show a call and we can chat directly. read more »

One more thing before I let you go... I'd like to do a special edition devoted to skepticism and critical thinking in American politics on May 21st. Of particular interest to me are instances where skepticism and critical thinking have given way to irrationality and how those instances have shaped politics. Conspiracy theories, anti-intellectualism, global warming (and other forms of) denialism, and reactionary populism all fall under this general rubrick and there are plenty of examples both historical and current. I realize this isn't an area most of you write about every day so I wanted to give everybody who is interested in participating a heads up and hopefully we can expand the range of blogs contributing to Carnival of the Liberals.

Well, don't let anyone tell you there's nothing interesting in the blogosphere, because we've got proof right here that anyone who says that is full of it. So, in no particular order and I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, here's the notable blog carnivals for the past week.

Over at Brainshrub, Paul was proudly showing off his birthday suit in the 17th Carnival of the Liberals.

Tangled Bank has become a grand old science blog carnival, with #58 hosted by Martin at Salto Sobrius.

And there's a hot, hot, hot Carnival of Education#76 down in Texas at the Education in Texas blog.

If you think the Texas heat is for the birds, then you're wrong because they've all flown across the Atlantic to do I and the Bird #28 with Katie over at Bogbumper.

If you're looking for a bite to eat, then maybe the skeptics will give you a Scooby Snack if you ask nicely. For it's 39th meeting, the Skeptics' Circle has taken a field trip to Franken Castle (aka Mike's Weekly Skeptic Rant).

The brainy people are engaging in Pure Pedantry with Encephalon #2.

Finally, if you're feeling overwhelmed by all this great reading, then maybe you want to join everyone else Powering Down in Carnival of the Green #36.

Coming up Sunday we've got every infidel's delight, the Carnival of the Godless at Beware the Dogma and Synapse, the other neuroscience carnival at  The Neurophilosopher's Blog, who coincidentally runs Encephalon.

Yay! One of my favorite blog carnivals, the Carnival of Bad History, is back and it's going monthly. CoBH #6 is up now at Frog In A Well - Japan and it's your obligatory reading for today. After you're done with CoBH, take a walk with the docs on the Grand Rounds at Medviews and then go green with Carnival of the Green #33 at Jen's Green Journal.
