What evil lurks in the heart of fundamentalists?

It's Halloween time again and while for most people it means trick-or-treating with your kids, costume parties or possibly some sort of mild criminal behavior, for fundamentalists it means a time of hand-wringing proselytizing about how we're all going to go to hell. In recent years the killjoy fundies have raised their virtuous angst to a fever pitch. "Hell houses [1]" have sprung up in church basements and back lots all over, parents are urged to give out biblically oriented candy [2] (gives new meaning to the phrase 'sweet jesus') and self-appointed guardians of culture have launched a full out attack on the "devil's holiday [3]."

But why do they hate Halloween so much? Paul V. over at brainshrub.com [4] thinks he knows. Paul is offering up this insightful look [5] at the subconcious fundie with inspiration from Poe:

Paul V. wrote:
No wonder fundamentalists dread Halloween so much! To radical Christians, this holiday subconsciously forces them to face up to their worst fears that someday another belief-system might do unto them what they did unto others.

I think Paul nails this one. So go give brainshrub some love.
