Gire Vidal: "I'm not a conspiracy theorist - I'm a conspiracy analyst."

Gore Vidal has been claimed by the Truthers as "one of them" for some time, thanks to some very vague remarks he made on an American radio programme. And they were glad to have him, since he added much-needed intellectual ballast to their ranks alongside leading thinkers as Charlie Sheen and Rosie O'Donnell. However, speaking at the PEN World Voices Festival in New York last week, he clarified his position:

"I'm not a conspiracy theorist - I'm a conspiracy analyst. Everything the Bushites touch is screwed up. They could never have pulled off 9/11, even if they wanted to. Even if they longed to. They could step aside, though, or just go out to lunch while all these terrible things were happening to the nation. Yeah. I believe that of them."

So, the most that can be claimed is that he considers Bushco morally capable of LIHOP - and definitively incapable of MIHOP. Note that he does not say that he believes it was LIHOP, just that he believes Bushco capable of it. Scratch him from the ranks, boys.

MervinFerd | 2007-05-06 08:15 |  Thanks. I will scratch Vidal off the senile list...

Sheen, O'Donnell, Cynthia McKinney, that translator whistleblower, one nutcase General... I am trying to think of other (otherwise) legitimate public figures signed onto the Trutherism.

procrastinate later | 2007-05-06 10:53 |  I'm not a big fan of Vidal

His attempts at writing history tend to be toward the "utter bollocks" part of the critical spectrum. Good for him in rejecting 9/11 Truthiness though.
