Carnival of the Godless #62

tng | 2007-03-18 13:28

A St. Patrick's day edition of Carnival of the Godless is up now at Black Sun Journal. As always, a lot of great topics under discussion on the net's best godless blogs. Quoting Black Sun:

Welcome to this edition of Carnival of the Godless, in rousing celebration of the death in 493 CE of that pagan-basher known as Patrick. Being of partly Irish heritage, I take exception to the canonization of a man who persecuted the druids and nature-worshipers in my ancestral country, burned books, chopped down sacred groves, and replaced authentic traditions with the eternal corruption of scripture.

So today, we’ll drive away the snakes of god-belief in his honor–let the games begin.

The church today recognizes Wicca as part of itself ( you could have knocked me over with a feather ! ) according to a local pastor. It had a terrible time gaining traction in Britain because it was not seen as a step forward as a belief system. That led to it eventually being the victim of mud slinging as the passage "Thou salt not suffer a witch to live" was deliberately misapplied by the Pope. Being of Prod upbringing myself, I remember the literal meaning of the word "Protestant" as not recognizing Papal authority.
