The BBC is part of the coverup!

tng | 2007-03-12 09:58

Apparently 2,149 people as of the time I type this are petititioning the BBC to come clean on its' role in the coverup of 9/11 (although I'm willing to bet the last signature by Ima Loon was created by one of our Disinformation Specialists). The utter futility of this act and the resultant inaction by the BBC will of course be interpreted to be more evidence of the conspiracy and the Beeb's role in 9/11. After all, if the Beeb were really on our side they'd be reporting how they knew about WTC7 collapsing before it actually collapsed, how the Queen had Diana killed and the large number of unsolved murders at the time Bill Clinton was attending Oxford.

For all I know, Richard Porter could be the total heartless evil bastard the conspiracists make him out to be yet I've got to feel for him as the conspiroids swarm:

So Mr. Richard Porter of the BBC wants the whole 'BBC Reported Building 7 Collapse 20 Minutes Before It Fell' scandal (and believe me, it IS a scandal even if you don't see it on the evening news) to just go away. The BBC is under the impression that knocking down a couple of straw-men and proclaiming 'nothing to see here folks' is going make us all just forget the monumental 'cock up' which is the BBCs attempt at damage control. The BBC is also under the impression that it is only a few 'lone nuts' out there hammering the YouTube and Google Video counts and that this story is going to lose all it's steam by next week. ...

This seems to me a rather small number, actually. Given the flurry of activity in the Dungeon, very nearly all of those 2149 must have posted. Seriously, is this a measure of the number of loons out there? Surely most of the active loons must be aware of the petition and would have added their names. Across the wide world, you would expect a measureable % of the population to be Loons. So, 3 million, say. But, it really requires a very small number of active posters to dominate the handful of liberal boards that will tolerate them. 2149. And one of those is a fake, so 2148 full-blown conspiroids in the universe.

I have to wonder how many of the signatures are sockpuppets though? Conspiracists seem to have no qualms with the neocon concept of the noble lie, as long as it's their noble lie and not someone else's. So I wouldn't put it past many conspiracists to sign twice, thrice or more.

Either way, the utter futility of this gesture is almost painful to watch.

procrastinate later | 2007-03-13 04:42 |  It's such a non-story and it always was

I was really surprised that semi-sane tinfoilers made so much out of it, but this is fine by me. It just illustrates to everyone else just how fruitloops the conspiroids are.

Bryan Sacks was playing a cynical game, maybe. I can't tell about him. Consiroid Hypothesis # 1135: The essential conspiroid trait is a refusal to state clear hypotheses. The Conspiroid Catechism says that there is -some- sinister conspiracy in the world. It doesn't really matter -what- conspiracy. Any event that sounds sinister and unexplainable is evidence of that, never mind that it is incoherent. The WTC7 'evidence' is equally incoherent, but nearly all of them believe it.

Moriarty | 2007-03-13 09:16 |  This entire WTC7 business is funny in retrospect.

Funny because it represents such a sprawling, monstrous waste of time and effort on the part of the Truthers. It has been a distraction, even, from their usual sterile fields. It's like a microcosm of the whole insane Truth movement - a castle of air built on the tiniest inconsistency.

It becomes especially funny if you consider that the BBC/WTC7 meme actually makes the whole Truther story less credible as a whole - it means they have been very wrong to caim that the collapse of WTC7 was unexpected, and it adds scores more people - foreign journalists at that, always good to rely on in a conspiracy - to their cast of thousands.

So I urge them to expend as much effort as possible "investigating" and "exposing" this nonsensical non-story.

tng | 2007-03-13 09:43 |  That's one good thing about the truthers

They're a self-marginalizing faction. I do worry about the fallout of anti-semitic and other hate speech originating with and propagated by the truthers but there's always going to be a (thankfully) small nutcase contingent to deal with. While a large percentage of the American public might believe in some form of undistinguished complicity of the Bush administration in the events of 9/11 (including those who believe arrogance, incompetence and croneyism led to criminal negligence; i.e. my position) when their leaders sport Nazi swastika screensavers or that there's no way a commercial passenger jet couldn't have possibly navigated to hit the towers on the first attempt (see the comments about John Lear at my link) then it becomes painfully obvious that 9/11 denialists are essentially bigoted, hate filled, loons.

On edit: Holy run-on sentences Batman! Sorry for the badly constructed grammar above.  Obviously I need more caffeine.
