Carnival of the Godless

UPDATED! It's a 2-for-1 special on godless blog carnivals this bi-week. Jerry Monaco, the original host for this edition of Carnival of the Godless had internet connection issues this weekend and wasn't able to post. Jerry's edition of Carnival of the Godless #39 is up now at Shandean Postscripts to Politics, Philosophy, and Culture. So scoot on over to Jerry's site and read this bi-week's CotG if only for the great book recommendations. This is a great edition of CotG and well worth the extra wait.

Originally posted 2006-05-01 11:54AM EDT: Did the rapture happen? The latest Carnival of the Godless host seems to be MIA. Well, I'm still here and so is Brent Rasmussen who has the relocated 39th edition of this venerable blog carnival over at Unscrewing the Inscrutable. Despite the furor over a certain tolerance-impaired writer this past week, there's many fine posts on other topics.

In particular, Frank the Financially Savvy Atheist has an interesting idea for an atheist PSA. Should atheists be waging a public relations campaign?  I think we need to do something like this, but when it comes right down to it, the best PR is for atheists to be forward and open about their lack of belief and just going about their everyday business. By staying in the closet, so to speak, we lend credence to the same old tired myths about atheism and atheists simply by not providing a living counterexample.

The next COTG will be held on May 14, 2006 at Coturnix's Science & Politics. Submissions can be sent to submission form at Blog Carnival.
